This mini apartment in Moscow, Russia, which covers only 75 square meters, was a big challenge for Burowhite. It is very difficult to set up an entrance hall, kitchen dining room, livingroom, children's area, bedroom, master and second bathroom, dressing room and laundry room in the 75 square meter interior.
Luckily, the apartment is located on the top floor of the building and has a 3.6m ceiling. The studio managed to use this resource to organize the second floor of the apartment, which can accommodate all the bedrooms and areas. For this project, they used a rather light palette of white and various natural materials in a utilitarian setting.
Redside Home
Designed as a pied-à-terre for a family, Redside Home by Burowhite sits in a residential complex in central Moscow, surrounded by shops, cafes, parks and restaurants. With 116sqm to work with, Burowhite have created a modern interior with a focus on discreet storage systems to make the most of every inch of the space.
The contemporary Redside Home contrasts the family’s primary country residence, drawing on a soft colour palette and restrained finishes; a calming atmosphere that tempers itsinner-city locale. Burowhite’s strong emphasis on comfortable family living through spatial proportions and storage capacity has resulted in a simple pied-à-terre, with a lot more than meets the eye.
“The functional task was tolocate the master bedroom and two children’s rooms of approximately the same area separately and to design a comfortable kitchen space with a dining table for four,” Burowhite architect Alexey Kudimov says. Situated at the rear of the apartment, the central kitchen, living and dining space is the communal hub of the home.
An expansive kitchen bench topruns parallel to the wall, with the addition of a custom double-height diningtable, catering to the space limitations of the building. White, grey and concrete surfaces are contrasted with the warmth of natural wood in the cabinetry and matt black fixtures. Storage is paramount in this zone, with discreetfull-height panels framing the walls. An enclosed balcony reveals views of Moscow’s city scape and drenches the dining room in natural light; an element which was vital to the brief of the home.
The children’s spaces feature accents of unsaturated colour in the textiles, warmed by wooden floorboards, cushioned wall panels and indoor plants. A recessed nook houses a double bed inthe main bedroom, allowing for the room to breathe and feel much larger than it is. “The project has many hidden, technically-demanding details, which look simple in appearance,” says project architect Natalia Kudimova.
