The architect and designer Rodolphe Parente has been inspired by the Italian villas of the 30s to update this 1910 home in one of the best areas of Paris.

Parente completely reformulated the distribution of this house of 309 square meters, establishing the master bedroom as the heart of the house. The living room and two other rooms were arranged in the back, which are accessed through a round antechamber. "We needed the space to breathe, so we opted for a circular distribution to make it more dynamic and enveloping," he says.

Parente always try to include something a little different and unusual that causes a dialogue，and his goal here was to update the interior by turning its traditional Parisian look. Soft colors, smooth lines, sophisticated decor items and bold solutions – the author managed to create a simply magnificent mix with French charm. He likes to give a certain graphic touch to the spaces, citing Carlo Scarpa, Pierre Chareau and Peter Zumthor among his influences.

When Parisian design guru Didier Krzentowski, founder of the gallery KREO, introduced interior architect Rodolphe Parente to a pair of sophisticated young collectors in the sunny South of France, it was a match made in heaven. “They are my age, so it was all super easy and nice," Parente says. "They wanted to create a space which was a bit different, to go further than just decoration, so we started with zero references and created a story together."

The clients, a young couple with two children, live between Paris and the C?te D'azur. They also, as it happens, have a wonderful, growing collection of contemporary art and design pieces. "This is a project in the south, so the light is different there—we wanted natural materials, nothing shiny and rich, like straw on paper, this works with the southern light." he says.

Parente begins all of his projects with two core design directions, inviting dialogue—making a space for the clients to say what they love and what they don't. "I don’t like the idea of a signature style," he says. "Each project is really a dialogue—playing ping-pong with the client; I need to understand and respect their lifestyle and their lives."
