翡翠观海书城的构筑从一开始就寄托着唤醒城市书店的理想。“书店仍然是我们自由和不受限制地交流思想的场所。在书店里，我们可能在众人中独自寻觅，但我们是和他们联系在一起的。即便我们现在停止一切出版，要为我们已有的书籍找到归宿也需要很长时间，所以我们仍然需要书店作为书籍的集散地，因为书店不是一个乌有之乡，而是一个可以提供诸多乐趣的实地。”
From the very beginning, the construction of Xinhua Vanke Bookstore entrusted the ideal of revive the city's bookstore. "The bookstore is still a place for us to exchange ideas freely and unrestrictedly. In the bookstore, we may be searching alone among the people, but we are connected with them. Even if we stop all publishing now, we must have it for us. It takes a long time for our books to find their destination, so we still need a bookstore as a collection and distribution center for books, because a bookstore is not a land of nothing but a place that can provide a lot of fun."
书城择址莱山区中轴观海路旁，周边烟台大学文经学院、滨州医学院等，书香环绕，临近逛荡河公园、烟台体育公园。
翡翠观海书城希望以极具文化色彩的城市书店，构筑一处人居生态的邻里中心，让更多维场景的空间体验互相渗透，给予到访者空间归属感，让这里真正成为一个可以让人沉浸其中阅读与休闲的游憩场所。就像人们期待着书店与咖啡馆能够如影随形，咖啡区的融入让书城的形象更完整了，也带给了空间更多交流与互动的体验。

木结构造型与书架及空间的关系/阶梯阅读区/下沉式阅读区设计手稿
延续了建筑的美学形式，室内大面积木结构设计搭建起空间的“骨架”，吊顶与陈列台的木结构斗拱设计互相呼应，让空间更饱满而层次感。动线的设计营造了书籍展示与阅读区之间适宜人流聚集的空间感，有效地规避了人流拥堵和喧闹的现象。一层以书吧结合休闲吧的综合娱乐空间为主要功能，夹层为休闲阅读区的延伸空间，二层为品牌文化展厅。

为打造复合式的文化生活空间，书城里的书架设计以茑屋书店为范本，如，畅销书籍区、推荐书籍区、精品阅读区，以及文学馆、科技馆、史料馆等分类齐全的设计，满足于未来无限扩大的书籍需求。就如增田宗昭所说，重构书店空间，营造一个生活方式的提案场所，很多人来书店不是带着目的，而是享受一个发现的过程。

木是书的“源”，书是木的“续”，书城空间选用了颜色贴近自然的木质材料与大地配色，室内有着素雅静逸的读书氛围，宽阔的空间感，视线自由地徜徉在无边无际的文山书海，慢生活的步调也渐渐从书香氤氲中飘散开来。

丝丝恋旧的情怀透过书架上的陈设吐露着城市里生活的痕迹，仿古上世纪的老式留声机、胶片相机、收纳盒、玩偶等小摆件，一点点倾诉着这座城市过往今来的剪影。空间中的吊灯的设计仿佛致敬现代主义之作，金属材质与圆形及不规则形状的碰撞，悬挂在书吧的半空中，带来遨游于宇宙，与行星擦身而过的视觉感受。
The nostalgic feelings reveal traces of life in the city through the furnishings on the bookshelves, antique small ornaments such as old-fashioned phonographs, film cameras, storage boxes, dolls and so on from the last century, telling a little bit about the city's past and present silhouettes. The design of the chandelier in the space seems to be a tribute to modernism. The collision of metal materials with round and irregular shapes is suspended in the mid-air of the book bar, bringing the visual experience of traveling in the universe and passing by the planets.
